After more than five years of work, the Holy See has approved the Statutes of the Neocatechumenal Way, thus confirming the praxis in more than 105 nations for over thirty years. The decree of approval, dated the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, was solemnly consigned on June 28 to the initiators of the way, Kiko Arguello and Carmen Hernandez together with Father Mario Pezzi, by Cardinal Stafford, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, the Dicastery entrusted by the Holy Father with the task of guiding the preparation of the statute. The Neocatechumenal Way has not been approved...

Arlington, Ore. (AP) -- The mayor of an Oregon town who once stripped to her underwear and posed on a fire truck has been stripped of her office. Voters in this town of about 500 voted narrowly Monday to recall Carmen Kontur-Gronquist. The tally was 142-139. City officials said the recall is effective Tuesday. Kontur-Gronquist said the pictures of her in black bra and panties were taken for use in a contest about fitness, but a relative posted them on MySpace in hopes it would improve the social life of the single mother.

She walks down the street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, thin and stylish, just another well-heeled beauty chatting away on her cell phone. Except that she isn't she's Usama bin Laden's (search) niece. Wafah Binladin (search) left the city in the months before her uncle's ghastly attack, but she's back now, living at a friend's posh pad off Park Avenue, pursuing her career as a pop star and living it up on the social scene at swanky Soho House. Although the Saudi Binladen Group (search) changed its name, at least when dealing with one U.S. firm after...

ROMA, January 24, 2005 Among the new movements that have arisen within the Catholic Church in recent decades on the "dangers" of which an editorial in "La Civiltà Cattolica" sounded the alarm on August 19, 2004 there is one that is under closer observation than the rest: the Neocatechumenal Way. Begun in 1964 in Spain by Francisco "Kiko" Argüello and Carmen Hernández (see photo), the Way has seen impressive growth throughout the world. On June 29, 2002, the Holy See approved its statutes. But that did not end the scrutiny. That same year, on September 21, John...

Carmen bin Laden lifts the lid on life in Osama's family By Catherine Milner and Charlotte Edwardes (Filed: 09/11/2003) A sister-in-law of the world's most wanted terrorist leader has described her life in Saudi Arabia as a "prison" and says that the young Osama bin Laden was so religiously zealous that he "froze" when he saw her face unveiled. Carmen bin Laden, who is divorcing the al-Qa'eda leader's half-brother, Yeslam, said that even in the privacy of her home, Osama bin Laden "couldn't bear looking at my naked face. He never deigned to speak a word to me". Mrs bin...
